Great Neices and Nephews

By my last count between us Gary and I have 20 great nieces and nephews.  This past year has added two more - Great neice in California, great nephew in St. Louis, and next month my oldest great niece Allison is having a baby (my little brother is going to be a great grandpa)  yikes that means I'm going to be a great-great aunt! To make this quilt related - each and every one of our nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews has a quilt.  This is the quilt I made for Kellan Ford in St. Louis.  Kellan's heritage is Irish, Italian and German, but the Irish is what spoke to me, so I included a bright green.

Right now I'm working on a quilt for Satya Ruby in California.  Her parents were in Paris and in London for the Olympic games last year, so I've incorporated a fabric with the Eiffel Tower.  I wanted to include a fabric that had an olympic theme or a London theme, but couldn't find any that spoke to me.  So the quilt with be mostly pink and orange (I know that sounds ghastly, but it really seems to be working)  I found some fabric with a 60's retro feel with large flowers that are orange, yellow and pink, then to tone it down I made the stars with black points and green corners.  Now to get it quilted.  here's a quick preview. 

OK, I'm not quite sure why I can't move these photos where I want them in this blog, so I apologise for how awkward this looks, but you get the idea.  I'll post more pictures after I get it quilted.    I've also started working on +Bonnie Hunter's (of Quiltville.com fame) Mystery Easy Street, so look for some pictures of that quilt as well.   Till next time,, keep quilting. 

New Year in St. Louis

Gary and I have had a wonderful New Year week here in my hometown.  We shared a late Christmas with my Sister, two brothers and their families - what a crowd!

Connected with a couple we have not seen in >20 years on new years eve in the middle of a snow storm.  Spent about 6 hours catching up and just enjoying each others company.  

Called a friend from my BS Pharmacy class who lives in the St. Louis area (we've friended each other on facebook, so have been following the day to day for some time) talked with her for more than 2 hours.  Were unable to meet face to face as she was under the weather, but have hopes that we can connect on another trip to STL. 

Exchanged Christmas gifts with my best frined from high school and her husband.  I'm amazed - we have so much in common although we lost contact with each other for more than 30 years.  She is big into cafts of all types and I've dabbled in knitting, crochet, cross stitch, macrame and now quilting has taken over for me.  I'm trying to convert her to a quilter, but so far no luck.  We both enjoy hand made items and each other's company. 

Today we're getting together with cousins from my dad's side of the family and tomorrow is a party for a great nephew (cristening party) and a birthday party for his brother (3years old), should be a lot of fun.

Post Thanksgiving Message

Happy belated Thanksgiving to all my family and friends.   Hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving weekend.  We visited my sister and her family in St. Louis, ate too much food, visited with family, played banana grams with the family, went to movies, to the Botanical Gardens for the train display and generally had a good time.   I was able to deliver the latest quilts due to family members.

So now I'm caught up on all the quilts I'm making for family members (until the next two babies are born, that is)

 

I'm hoping to get some quilting done for me and then some more charity quilts quilted soon.

My First Blog

 Hello - I've been a quilter for at least 30 years but am relatively new to the blogger scene. I hope to share some of my previous work as well as quilts in progress. I come from a large family and have made quilts for each of my brothers and sisters, their children and their children's children. So as a preview here are a few of my quilts.
